In 1992 Prof. Charles Schlacks Jr. of Utah Univ. edited and published
a book (146 pages) called "Tanneck; The Journal of The Wilhelm Furtwängler
Society of America, volumn 1 number 1", illustrated by numerous and beautiful
Sepia portraits by Trude Fleischmann (1896-1990) from the Thirties. (out
of print)
(The special issue "TANNECK" of WFSA was originally feature a
comprehensive collections of essays and critques by musicians, critics,
and schlars as well as translations of Furtwangler's own writings. The
issue seralized documents and book-length studies. It would be handsomely
produced on acid free paper with numerous illustrations from the Furtwangler
Archives in Clarens. But but for several reasons, it was never distributed
by the society mainly due to that two artilcles selected by the editor
contained a blatantly offensive history of genocide. This case didn't reflect
the opinion of the WFSA therefore this book later was only distributed
and signed series number at the end of each copy by the editor, official
revised version of this book published under WFSA was never come out.)

IX. Furtwangler book ordering
information IV
There is a USA used book store which can supply
the out-of-print book::
Daniel Gillis: "Furtwängler Recalled",
published by Atlantis Verlag, Zurich, Switzerland, in USA by John de
Graff Inc., Tuckahoe, 1965, 224 pages, 5 photos, hardcover. (superb
recollections by many of the maestro's colleagues and friends) (out
of print)
This book was out of print for a long time,
can only be found in some secondhand bookstores. The price for a used copy
is
high or very high.
Recently I contacted a secondhand bookstore
and was very surprised that they have 25 copies of this book in their stocks.
And the price is resonable at US$20.00. So I think there may be some friends
on the list want to have this book. The informations of this bookstore
are attached below.

From the book's dealer::
Please note the book has mildew damage to
the cover. (It was stored in a damp place in the publishers home.) The
condition of the book should have been listed as fair to good. The contents
of the book are very good, as is the dust wrapper.
I have about 25 copies of this book. I bought
a carton at an auction of the publishers estate. It was stored in
a wet area for some time and I
thought all the books were damaged. I believe
I have at least five or six in good condition except for the smell (which
gets less in time.)
Email me if you want additional copies and
I will let you know the cost if all mailed together in one package.
They will be less than $27.50
each.

Wayne Morris for Biblioworks
